Volunteering opportunities through the SU

The SU have a number of volunteering opportunities available.  Training for these roles will take place over the summer ready for a September start.

If your CV is lacking experience and looking a bit empty and you would like to help others these opportunities could be for you...

International Buddy Scheme
This is a program where we pair up newly arrived international students with returning Northampton Students (home or international).  The role of our returning students is to act as mentors  and help these students settle in.  This would be through taking part in group activities, or meeting up one on one over a cup of coffee.  This is ideal to fit around their studies, and can be done on or off campus.   More details online here

Nightline
This is a student led welfare listening service.  We training students to offer an evening support service which enables other students to phone or email someone who will take time to listen to them; this is completely anonymous.  The issues could range from being home sick, exam stress or just feeling alone.  There is an interview selection process and 2 day training which must be completed before anyone can work the evening shifts.

Alternatively, we are looking for a team of student who would be the faces of Nightline.  We would be calling them the Friends of Nightline, and they are all about promoting and marketing the services.   More Details here

Safe Sex Team
This project is all about promoting sexual health awareness on campus.  The team not only give out free condoms, but would work closely with the HNS to carry out awareness campgianes and Chlymidea testing on campus. Training will always be provided by the HNS.

Roles within this program include a Safe Sex Team Adisor who is training to carry out tests, and offer basic advice.  The other is a Safe Sex Team Promote, who leads on the campgaining and promotion of the service (they would not have to carry out the testing).  More details here.
