If you are hoping to get into the legal sector you should be trying to get as much relevant experience as possible. Volunteering in Pro Bono Clinics are a crucial element in you getting ahead of the crowd.
The University of Northampton participates in a
Pro Bono Clinic in conjunction with Shoosmiths Solicitors and the Citizens
Advice Bureau. The clinic takes place on the second Wednesday of every month,
5-7pm at the CAB Offices in Northampton town centre. Students who participate
are provided with case details in advance and are required to research their
cases before attending to observe the client interview which is conducted by a
member of staff from Shoosmiths. Depending on level of interest, the commitment
required is 2 to 3 sessions per year plus attendance at a training event which
is held at Shoosmiths in October. Students who are interested in taking
part during the next academic year should email Sophie Lomas (sophie.lomas@northampton.ac.uk)
to express their interest.
There will be a meeting on Tuesday 16th
May at 1pm for all students who have expressed an interest in taking part
where the operation of the clinic will be explained in more detail. Please note
that only students who attend this meeting will be allowed to go on the rota
for the clinic and if numbers exceed capacity then priority will be given to
students who are about to enter their 3rd year (or second year of
the 2 year intensive)
This is a fantastic opportunity to volunteer to
help the local community through pro bono work. Participation in the clinic
will also boost your CV, improve your legal research and client interviewing
skills and provide a great opportunity to network with solicitors.
If you have any queries then please do get in
