Governance
essay competition
The Tom Morrison
essay competition:
If you are a student or
recent grad you can win £1,000 by getting involved in our Tom Morrison essay
competition; (£500 runner up prize.) This competition is kindly sponsored by
Sharegift. Simply answer the following question:
“It has been said that
governance failures usually happen within the subsidiary structure of a large
business, but all governance focus tends to be at the main board level. Is the
focus on the right area and, if not, what improvements could be made?”
Your answer need not be
restricted to the corporate sector. References to other sectors (public sector,
not-for-profit organisations, etc.) can be used to support your argument.
Essays should be 2,000-2,500 words in length, with 2,500 being the maximum
number of words that will be accepted. The deadline for submission is 5pm GMT
on Monday 19 March 2018. Good luck and we look forward to reading your essay.

Insight days
Many companies offer open
days to around 15 or 20 students to come in and meet the company secretarial
team, find out more about and learn what they do. This is an excellent way of
building your professional knowledge and building a network. Last year, several
students obtained roles through meeting organisations
We’ve just released the
Insight day list for 2018 ; https://www.icsa.org.uk/professional-development/graduatehub/insightdays
AGM seats and jobs
We also advertise open days
to company AGMs (Annual General Meetings), so interested students can come
along and see how a real FTSE 350 AGM is conducted. Very useful for anyone
studying business, law, finance, management etc. looking to work in the
corporate sector especially.
The AGM dates have not yet
been confirmed for 2018, I am compiling the list now. They will shortly be
updated via our main Graduate hub page: www.icsa.org.uk/graduatehub
There is also a jobs board
called ‘ICSA Advance’ where relevant trainee and work experience roles are advertised.
