The Midland Circuit Mini-Pupillage Scholarship Programme
The Bar of England and Wales
is divided into six regions, commonly known as “Circuits”. One of which is the
Midland Circuit. Amongst other things, the Circuits provide support and
training for barristers practising within the area.
The Midland Circuit recognises
that financial pressures mean that deserving candidates often cannot undertake
mini-pupillages because they cannot afford to travel to or stay in the required
location for a week, often whilst losing a week of paid employment. As such,
the Midland Circuit is seeking to encourage diversity by offering 5 funded mini-pupillages
for students in higher education (18 years and over).
The programme will arrange
for a successful candidate to spend 3-5 days (subject to availability and
individual requirements) at a Chambers on Circuit. This will be matched as
closely as possible to the location and desired practice areas of the
individual candidate. Reasonable funding for travel and/or accommodation will
be provided and should be detailed within the application form.
Successful candidates will be
determined on merit and their individual circumstances following completion of
the application form. The form can be requested by email
(jk@no5.com). Candidates should provide any relevant details of their personal
background; their connection to the Midlands; all dates of availability for the
academic year 2019/2020 and reasons why they wish to undertake a
mini-pupillage. This will be considered alongside the answers to the competency
questions.
This programme is not
restricted to those studying law or a qualifying conversion course but a strong
link to the Midlands is required and must be evidenced within the application
form.
All completed application
forms should be emailed to jk@no5.com. The closing date is 17 May 2019 and
successful candidates will be notified by 7 June 2019.
