Trying to get into a City law firm?

The opportunities to improve your chances of winning a training contract at a top City law firm are all around you, throughout the year. The right combination of skills, knowledge, contacts and experience is the key to success. So what could be better than CityLawLIVE, an event that combines all four in one amazing, intensive day of action and activity? Applications are open NOW!

CityLawLIVE is a one day conference that will make you an expert on what is needed to break into the elite world of City law. We look at:
  • what the City and its lawyers do,
  • how lawyers work together,
  • how they relate to their clients,
  • how practice areas are distinct,
  • the attributes and skills they have; and
  • how to maximise your chances of success.
What’s the format? This information is presented in speeches, panel discussions and, most importantly, through interactive workshops presented by practitioners from 10 top-drawer law firms. You’ll also have a chance to quiz the recruitment teams from the firms face to face – if you are properly prepared, it is a huge opportunity to impress these employers, start a relationship with them and get your name and face recognised. Remember, these firms are looking for the best talent and you have the chance to prove that is you.

So what’s the catch? The cruel truth is that a City legal career is not open to all. Firms are prescriptive in the minimum standard of candidate they will consider and CityLawLIVE is only open to those candidates who are meeting those standards. Attendance is decided by a competitive application process that mirrors (and even uses the same online forms as) those used by law firms. The process is designed to identify clever, capable, interesting, interested and well-prepared candidates.

Now is the time to get applying. Getting onto CityLawLIVE is a great reward and even making the application is great practise for firm applications. We are particularly interested in hearing from students entering their second year on a law degree or non lawyers considering the conversion route and currently commencing their final year as an undergraduate. But the event is open to all. If you are good enough you are in with a shout – just make sure your application tells us why, loud and clear.
You can see the application form at www.apply4law.com/citylawlive. If you have any doubts about what is expected, take a look at LawCareers.Net’s Application FAQs and the site as a whole.
