Criminal
Law Lecture, Holdenby Lecture Theatre 1 - 12th January 2016 at
3pm; guest speaker Naz Shah MP.
Ms Shah unseated George Galloway in the 2015 general
election, and has already been appointed to the Home Affairs Select Committee.
In 1993 her mother, Zoora Shah, was convicted of murder after killing a man who
had sexually, physically and emotionally abused her for 12 years. Ms Shah
campaigned along with her sister and women’s organisations to have her mother’s
conviction and sentence reduced.
She has also won what was described by an employment tribunal
panel as ‘a paradigm case for whistleblowers’, after reporting suspected local
government fraud.[1] We look forward to welcoming
Naz Shah to the University of Northampton.
