Are you interested in visiting a prison?

Grendon Prison are holding a Universities Day on Thursday 2nd June for students who are interested in finding out more about how a therapeutic prison works. Trying to gain access to prisons is extremely difficult so this is an excellent opportunity for any students interested in prisons and criminal justice issues. it would also be beneficial for any students considering the area of prisons as a dissertation topic and those students who have chosen LAW3017 (Sentencing & Prisons) as an option next year.

The details provided by Grendon are as follows:

We are hosting a University Day on Thursday June 2nd. This is an opportunity for students to find out more about how a prison Therapeutic Community works. There will be an overview of the therapy regime, how therapy addresses offending and risk behaviours as well as the psychological and emotional functioning of residents. Speeches will be given from a variety of staff. There will also be speeches from the residents as well as a ‘mock group’ to gain some insight into how a group runs. This will be for a full day, from approx. 10am-4pm and will take place in Grendon’s conference centre.

Please look at this link to a Channel 4 news piece if you are interested in finding out more about Grendon: http://www.channel4.com/news/prison-jail-offenders-therapy-grendon-jail-video

If you are interested in this visit please email Sophie Lomas (sophie.lomas@northampton.ac.uk) by Wednesday 20th April. If there is excessive demand then priority will be given to those students who have chosen LAW3017 for next year.
