Graduate job opportunity: Litigation Assistant / Litigation Paralegal (Full time)


ROLE: Litigation Assistant / Litigation Paralegal
HOURS: Full Time
LOCATION: Northampton (with potential for significant working from home after probation period and subject to suitable home facilities and supervision)
SALARY: £20,000 - £24,000 (depending on experience*)
APPLICATIONS:
     The ideal candidate will have a legal background/previous experience* within a law firm or in-house legal team, although this does not have to within credit/debt recovery, for example:
      experienced litigation secretary
      experienced commercial legal assistant or paralegal
      experienced litigation assistant, small claims manager/handler, paralegal or similar
     Law graduate, LPC graduate, CILEx (part or full) preferred, but not essential
     Good GCSEs and/or A levels

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
      For applicants who have no experience of managing their own legal case load: min 2 years’ experience in a law firm or in-house legal team is preferred.
      For applicants who have experience of managing their own legal case load: min 1 year’s experience in a law firm or in-house legal team is preferred.
      For all applicants: Min 1 year office experience is required.

      Recognises the importance of and is able to meet deadlines
      Confident, self motivated with the ability to work on own initiative

      Proficient IT abilities including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel (intermediate level) and preferably Google (Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Drive)
      Flexible attitude towards working practices (as working outside core office hours may be required from time to time in order to manage case load) 
THE ROLE:
The Cordant Group is looking for a Litigation Assistant or Litigation Paralegal to join the busy Group Legal Services team.

The main duties in this wide-ranging litigation role are:
● Providing advice to senior management team, credit control and other key stakeholders
   Running own caseload with some supervision
  Reviewing and evaluating evidence in order to determine and advise on legal risks and mitigation, including recommendations as to next steps and prospects of success
 Understanding, applying and advising on the impact of commercial terms, witness evidence and other evidence in respect of actual or potential litigation
  Negotiating settlements (by telephone or face to face), payment plans, mediations and other conciliations on behalf of the company
 Issuing legal notices, claims and ancillary orders, directions and other papers, ensuring compliance with Civil Procedure Rules and pre-action protocols where applicable
 Managing enforcement of judgments/debts in line with business requirements
  Attending hearings and representing the company in legal matters and disputes
  Assisting with insurance matters (e.g. insurance claims)
  Maintaining an accurate record of all matters in order to ensure business transparency and continuity within the legal team
  Supporting the Head of Group Legal Services/General Counsel and/or others within the team with ad hoc litigation and ancillary legal work from time to time
  Sharing knowledge on legal topics with others in the team and business, on an ad hoc basis and/or as requested to from time to time
   Proactively developing own legal technical knowledge
  Providing other legal support as may be requested from time to time, in line with working in an in-house legal team

   Provide overflow support for employment tribunals and disputes
