Legal competition with up to £4,000 in awards
The Law Reform Committee of the
General Council of the Bar organises an annual Essay Competition designed to
encourage and foster an interest in law reform.
The
Competition is open to
- Pupil barristers
- BPTC students
- CPE/GDL students
- Qualifying law degree students
and those aiming for a career at the Bar
Entrants
are invited to submit an essay of not more than 3,000 words that identifies
and makes the case for a law reform that is desirable, practical and useful.
The
Competition is sponsored by the Bar Council Scholarship Trust and the prizes
are
- £4,000 for
the winner
- £2,500 for
the runner up
- £1,500 for
the best CPE/GDL student entry
- £1,000 for
the runner up CPE/GDL entry
- 2 x £500 highly
commended awards
Closing date
for the competition is 17:00 on 7 October 2014. The prizes
will be presented immediately after the Annual Law Reform Lecture, which this
year will be on Tuesday 18 November 2014 at 17:30 in Inner Temple Hall.
There are guidance on plagiarism which is available on the website.

Interested in a career within Human Rights?
Law students, trainee solicitors, pupil barristers and junior lawyers are invited to enter The Law Society's annual Graham Turnbull essay competition.
This year's essay title is: 'Applying human rights and humanitarian law, in what circumstances should forcible measures be permitted against a state that is subjecting its people to human rights abuses?'.

Client Interviewing Competition 2013
Do you want to develop your communication
skills in a legal environment?
Do you want to be the first winner of the
University of Northampton Law Society C.I.C trophy?
Do you want to represent your University in the
National Client Interviewing competition?
If you answered ‘yes’ to each of the above,
please come along to our ‘Introduction to Client Interviewing’ presentation
which will take place on Thursday 31st
October from 2pm until 3pm in Room N25.
Training on Client Interviewing will take place
on Wednesday 13th November
from 1pm until 3pm in Room N3.
The Internal Client Interviewing Competition
will take place on Wednesday 20th
November from 2pm until 6pm in the Moot Room.
(The winners will be chosen to represent the
University at the National Client Interviewing Competition.)
If you are interested in
participating in the competition, you must attend the presentation and training
sessions.
